I’ve always had a passion for visual imagery and art but for a number of reasons I didn’t pursue this as a career earlier in my life. The turning point for me was when I attended a photography workshop with Christian Fletcher and Nick Rains in 2013, it renewed my passion for creativity and visual imagery. I knew that this was going to be something I pursue, more than a hobby but an uncontrollable drive!
My photography is inspired, in part, by my passion for travel and new experiences. I am diverse in photographic genres, specialising across travel, landscape, aerial and more creative/illustrative works. Everywhere I travel, be it local or abroad, I try to find something unusual and unique from the mundane to the dramatic, believing firmly that there is beauty everywhere.
Photography for me is a mixture of art, reality and more. A medium to capture the simple, the complex and everything in between. It enables us to see more than we’ve seen before and the more I look, the more I want to see.
My mantra is be true to yourself, find your style, shoot what you enjoy, create with no boundaries and above all have fun! After all, the best creative photography comes from a place of truth within yourself. This has helped me achieve some unbelievable recognition from the professional photography community winning the 2015 AIPP Creative Photographer of the Year and 2016 and 2017 Illustrative Photographer of the Year.
Don’t worry! I’m under no illusion that having the “best” in photographic equipment somehow leads to better photography. However I am a little bit of a gear and gadget junkie, so I do follow the latest photography equipment and at times I will go about acquiring it! Do I think this makes me a better photographer? NO! But it’s what I am interested in and each piece in my artillery has it’s strengths and weaknesses.
Let’s cut to the chase! What do I shoot with?? Well that depends on the job at hand but I can tell you I have the following cameras: Phase One XF and IQ380, Nikon D810, D750, Df, Sigma Quattro DP range and Sigma SD Quattro H. This should swiftly be followed by…..Hello my name is Leah and I have a camera acquisition problem….
